Understanding
cycles is important if you want to understand your home planet.
You can use some everyday activity to understand the concept of
a cycle. For example, you take dishes out of the cupboard, put them
on the table, use them to hold your food during dinner, carry them
to the sink or dishwasher, wash them, and carry them back to the
cupboard again. And you--or someone--must do this every day and
every meal of every day. The dishes are part of a cycle. They move
from the cupboard to the table to the sink back to the cupboard.
This cycle could be called the dish cycle.
Earth also
has a number of cycles. And like the example above, scientists identify
the cycle by the material that is put through the repetition or
cycle. Two of the
most important of Earth's cycles are the rock
cycle and the water cycle.
